食足世平 +-+ Peace will come to the world when the people have enough to eat

食足世平。今月5日に亡くなった日清食品の創業者にしてチキンラーメン、カップヌードルの発明者、安藤百福さんの言葉。食が足りてこそ世の中が平和になる、という意味だ。

この言葉を目にして、少し前にやっていた、カップヌードルのＴＶＣＭを思い出した。国際宇宙ステーションの搭乗員が、カップヌードル (の宇宙版のスペースラム) を食べる。そして眼下に広がる地球を小さな窓から眺める。そして「NO BORDER」の文字。(YouTube動画)

氏の発明したカップ麺は、どれだけの人の命を救ったのだろう。世界における紛争や災害時に援助物資として日本から送られたカップ麺の数は知れない。手元のコミック版プロジェクトＸによると、阪神大震災のときには162万食。ソ連崩壊の際には136万食。インドネシア・ティモール紛争のときには250万食。台湾大震災のときには5万食が送られたという。

一杯のカップ麺を食べるとき、そこに込められた世界平和への願いを忘れないようにしたい。氏のご冥福をお祈りします。

"食足世平" is a word by Momofuku Ando, the inventor of instant noodle, who passed away early in this month. This word means, "Peace will come to the world when the people have enough to eat".

I remember a TVCM of Nissin Cup Noodle that was seen in Japan. A crew of International Space Station eats Space Ram (space version of Cup Noodle), with seeing the Earth from a small window of ISS. Finally, telop of "NO BORDER" appears. (see it on YouTube)

I wonder that how many lives have been saved by his wonderful invention. Government of Japan has been sending instant noodle for conflict-affected regions and disaster areas in the world. For example, 1.62 millions for Great Hanshin Earthquake in Japan, 1.36 millions for Soviet breakup, 2.5 millions for confliction at Timor, and 50 thousands for Great Taiwan Earthquake.

May his soul rest in peace, with all my respect to his wish for the peace of the Earth, as seen in his instant noodle.
